Noble Sayings, And Then It Goes Downhill

It's Friday--time for a grin. Feel free to send your favorite jokes or funny stories to post on Fridays, otherwise I'll have more awful things---Like the jokes you'll find towards the end of today's post!
I've picked up the following quotes, too, over the past several months. I'm sure you'll agree the first ones are wonderfully spiritual and heady. Then we go to sentimental and sheer silliness. But what's a Friday for anyway?

·                                 "Heaven, once attained, will work backwards and turn even agony into a glory." C.S. Lewis

·                    "Our greatest fear should not be of failure, but of succeeding at something that doesn't really matter." D. L. Moody

·                   "When I cannot read, when I cannot think, when I cannot even pray, I can trust."
      J. Hudson Taylor

·                   There's nothing more beautiful than a smile that has struggled thru tears. (anonymous)

Instead of saying 'God, I have a big problem,' try saying 'Problem, I have a big God.' (anonymous)

Cop: "Why are you speeding?"
Widow: "I'm trying to keep up with traffic!"
Cop: "Ma'am, there is no traffic here."
Widow: "That's how far behind I am!"

Have you found yourself all stressed up with no place to go? (anonymous)

You don't have to be a cannibal to be fed up with people. (anonymous)

Menstruation, menopause, mental breakdowns... Ever noticed how all womens problems begin with men? (anonymous)

Ever notice how perspective changes with widowhood? Now you wish you had a man to blame, right? Hmmm . . . but would you settle for just any man? Feel free to comment about the things you cherished about your husband? How did he make you laugh or smile?
Enjoy these memories today.

  1. My husband was an avid hunter and one of the desires of his heart was to have a deer-head mounted. Much to my dismay, "Brown Eyes" was hung in a prominent place on our living room wall! This took place at Christmas time, so, he told our grandchildren:"Look! Santa crashed into our house last night and one of his reindeer got stuck in the wall! I miss Buck's sense of humor and his orneriness as well! Nothing made him happier than to pull off a good practical joke.

  2. What a gem, Renee'!!! Question is, is "Brown Eyes" still in the living room? Surely Buck is missed, not so sure Brown Eyes would be . . . You made me smile!

  3. Glenn and I would often "fight" as in push each other around and try to get that first cup of coffee in the morning. I loved how he always had his tickler in his pocket when the grandkids were over and I miss the twinkle in his eye. He was good at playing the monster when the kids made forts. And the sleepovers would often include Glenn crunched up under a fort made by blankets over the ironing board and my quilt frame. What fun we had!

  4. Dear Jean, Glenn sure made wonderful memories for you and your little ones. There's nothing like a man and wife having good plain fun, and a dad and grandpa who build forts and played monster. He blessed your lives and your love shines through. *

  5. Ferree, in answer to your question about "Brown Eyes"(my nickname for him): No, he never made his way to the walls of the living room of our new home. My Buck graciously hung his bucks ("Brown Eyes" and his unnamed kin) in our very unfinished basement, while he planned to finish a room for himself (man-cave) and them in the unfinished upstairs of our Cape Cod style home. I will most likely offer them to his daughter and step-son. In the meantime, maybe I will use one of them to paint a memorial portrait, since they were such an important part of my man's identity. I think my Buck would really like that! Thanks so much for asking. Your question just inspired this portrait idea!

  6. Renee' that portrait idea is fantastic! I'd love to see a picture of it when you're done! Wow, I wish I'd have thought to have someone do a painting of Bruce, kind of with a collage of all the people and things he loved. I think you've really hit on a good idea!
