Timing Is Everything!

Do you ever think, "Oh, I'll just check my email, it'll only take a second," or "Oh, I just need to look up this price, or find that one article real quick . . ." and then look at the clock forty minutes later? What took "only a second," ate up more time than a haircut or an exercise workout!

This happens to me all the time. This morning the brilliant idea struck me to buy a kitchen timer to set next to my computer. Then the even better idea followed: there must be something like that on the Net and it's free!

Here it is: the simplest of all timers. Just keep this website handy, mark your minutes, and the timer will go off as you're surfing in another window.

Guess what?
Click on the special timer for "Morning." Start the countdown to exercise! Let's hop to it! Run in place, Jumping jacks, sit ups and more! Exercise is a one of the best things you can do for yourself during grief.

Loneliness and isolation are some of the most difficult challenges for widows. Sometimes we do waste a whole day on the computer flitting from one site to another, playing a round of one game after another, and checking for messages constantly---any sort of acknowledgement that someone knows we exist---that we matter.

But computer time alone won't resolve loneliness. Tomorrow we'll look at constructive ways to use our time for actual solutions to loneliness. Until then, let's use our time wisely today, ferree

Oh how true that is! I was on the computer before my husband took ill and passed away, but have been on it even more since he left.

I do work part-time, take care of gardens and home, make needlework creations, cook and bake, read, and am decluttering and getting rid of junk. I don't watch TV, do occasionally watch movies on the computer.

It's not quite 9 months and I miss my dear husband every day, but knowing where he is, with Jesus, also blesses my heart daily.

Thank you Ferree for encouraging we widows as you do.

  2. Loneliness is something that does seem to stay with a widow even when other healing begins to happen. Yes, it so easy to flit away time on the computer.

  3. Most people don't realize what a huge adjustment widowhood is: to suddenly have an empty house and no one else to talk to, cook for, or care for sounds like a welcome vacation to many folks! But they don't understand the toll of loneliness. I know both you ladies are exemplary in the use of your time, and it's even hard for you. Please take heart tho, and keep presenting it to the Lord, watching for opportunities and ways He will open up for you. In the meantime, you are both a blessing here on the WCP. ((hugs))
