Anchor Points from the New Testament

(Lifeboat is a Facebook peer support group for widows. It's free, confidential, and private. The only way to join is to be a friend that's added by a current member of the group).

A few weeks ago, Lifeboat members called out verses of Scripture that have become increasingly significant to them during widowhood. Carrying out our nautical theme, I thought you'd appreciate seeing these Anchorpoints for the soul. Today's are from the New Testament, and later on I'll post verses from the Old Testament. Psalms is so loaded with verses for grieving people that it will make for a separate day.

I hope you'll take a few minutes today to meditate on these verses, maybe even say a prayer for the women who shared them. And if you'd like to try out Lifeboat, click here to find out how to join.

from the New American Standard Version Bible--

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16 -Susan

And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Romans 5:3-5 -Lynne

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. Romans 8:18 -Lynne

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 -Lynne

Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?  Just as it is written,
For Your sake we are being put to death all day long;
We were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.
For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:35-39 -Denise

For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. Philippians 1:21 -Amanda

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. Philippians 4:8 -Lynne

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 -Carrie
