TRUST

Saturday heralds the weekend, a reminder to cut some time in our schedules to "Come apart before we come apart." It's a time to read a verse, say a prayer or just sit down for a moment of sheer nothing but rest. Like Denise said in her comment on Wednesday, "rest before you think you feel like you need to."

Here's a good acrostic I picked up from my pastor's sermon a couple months ago:

TAKE AN INVENTORY: 1) Do I trust God? 2) Can God trust me?
RECOGNIZE GOD AS YOUR SOURCE
UNDERSTAND GOD'S PRINCIPLES
SURRENDER EVERYTHING TO GOD
TRUST GOD'S PROMISES

Are you short on some of God's promises? Let me share some favorites with you:
For a relationship with Christ--Romans 10:9
For a fresh start--I John 1:9
For comfort--Matthew 11:28-30
For strength--II Corinthians 12:9
For help with a decision--James 1:5
For peace of mind--Isaiah 26:3
For provision--Philippians 4:19

Have a blessed weekend. I'll be praying for you. ferree

  1. The older I get, the more I appreciate God's desire for me to have times of refreshing.

I like your pastor's acrostic, too, especially "Can God trust me?"

  2. Jane, I like how you put that--God's desire for me to have times of refreshing. It pleases Him when I rest and renew. I think I tended to see it simply as an impartial command because we needed it. But I think you've hit on a sweet truth that gives me a better look at our God. Also, since I posted this I've had a chance to think about how closely related rest is to trust. We really can't have one without the other, can we? Something to think about. Selah.
