February ~ Are You Ready?

February is a dreaded month for many widows, and no wonder!
All those little cupids and hearts everywhere?
Romance and roses filling the air?

Like Punxsutawney Phil, there are days she'd just like to crawl back down in her hole and sleep until it's over. Groundhogs have it pretty easy sometimes.
Can't a guy get a little sleep around here?

Hang in tight this month, dear widow. Just take one day at a time. Plan ahead a little bit. (Watch for Tuesday's post about Valentine's Day Ideas). Talk and pray with your Lifeboat group on Facebook, find some local widows to befriend, keep your eyes on Jesus and we'll get through this together.

Let the commercialism of Love this month remind you of a few things.

Time does not heal all wounds or grief . . . but love does.
So focus on loving the people you can;
don't focus on the love you miss.
Carry out living on God's terms.

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. I John 4:7 (NASB)

Even if it hurts.

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. Ephesians 5:1,2 (NASB)

I wouldn't tell you that unless I'd done it myself.
You can do this. With God's help, I know you can.

  2. Dear Swans, hugs to you. Your many friends and I will walk together with you through this difficult month. <3 PS I think writing Jan 32 on your calendar is brilliant!

  3. Hi Ferree -

Today, several people at church were talking about Valentine's Day. Even after almost 7 years of being a widow, my heart constricted.

My life is full and satisfying, but every now and then I get blindsided.

  4. Dear Susan, We do get blindsided, even after years. It rarely happens to me now, but I remember saying in the early days how I didn't ever want to forget. So when it does happen, I roll with it, grateful that God has granted me such a reminder. It can really knock the wind out of me though! It's so good to hear from you, and I hope people will recognize your name in the bookstores! :)
