Soul Food for Widows

Have you ever read through the entire Bible? It's a sure way to boost your understanding of God's Word and it's a great help and comfort on the journey through grief. Scripture is so essential to our Christian growth that it's likened to milk and honey. (I Peter 2:2 and Psalm 19:10). Plan now to start the new year with the goal of nourishing your soul every day.

If you have a smartphone try out some of the Bible app plans. Or download a plan from your computer. Google for plans from your church, denominational publisher, favorite ministries, etc. One source I've appreciated is from NavPress. Click here for  your choice of 3 different plans. If you're struggling with widow fog it's difficult to concentrate. Go for the 5 x 5 x 5 plan. It's just 5 minutes a day, 5 days a week.

Using a plan will give you a sense of accomplishment and movement when you look back in the months to come. Plus you'll reap benefits and blessings from investing time in God's Word and prayer--who couldn't use some of those?

I'd love to hear your ideas and habits for a daily time with God's Word. Which devotionals, Scripture passages, journals, or books, etc that have been like milk and honey for your soul this year? You can help other widows with your comments and recommendations. ferree

  1. Thanks, Ferree. I was looking for something like this. I am going to do the 5x5x5 plan. As a teenager my husband read through the entire Bible and even memorized one of the books. I am inspired to honor his memory by doing at least this much. Blessed Christmas!

  2. Good for you! This will be a loving and honoring tribute to him---and a great accomplishment for you! I'm proud of you already, and so glad that today's post gave you some good direction. I like to print off the pdf file provided on the link. I fold it and keep it right in the Bible I'm reading from all year. It's always handy that way for me. May you have a special Christmas too!
