Necessities and 9/11

Life is a series of give and takes, isn't it? Necessities rule when we want to do two things at once. For example, we want to acknowledge this day and the lives personally affected by the attack of 9/11. Yet airlines will fly today, New York City will bustle, Congress will act, the world will turn.

Right now I must look forward to the happy opportunity to celebrate a daughter's wedding, and yet without her father. Even though I'm happily remarried myself, I will still have moments that challenge me to balance the metallic twinge of what if and the precious reality of the here and now. And do you know what? I wouldn't want it any other way. I cherish the people in my life, both past and present. I'll not pretend that my children's father didn't exist and affect us all. But I'll not de-value the people in my present by wallowing in the loss. These are my choices and I'm grateful to see them. Loving those I'm in the midst of is a quality Bruce exemplified and one that I can carry on in his memory.

I also cherish 9/11. A widow from that fateful day, Jennifer Sands, wrote the forward to my book, Postcards From The Widows' Path. And today she'll be speaking at a 9/11 Memorial constructed in Montrose, PA where I first met her at a writers conference. I hope you'll read Jennifer's powerful story in her book, A Tempered Faith.  Click here for my blog post about her, and here for the Jennifer Sands website.

However, on another turn---getting down to blogging business--- I'll not be on the Internet for the next few weeks, and I feel like I'll disappoint or let down someone who's really searching for some hope through this widowhood time. It's always a balance between what I'd like to do and what I'm actually able to do. I think you'll understand. My heart's in two places at once--both here with you, and with my daughter and her wedding--but my time and Internet access is not. So I apologize and hope you'll visit again.

Book orders and Lifeboat requests will be filled today, and then again after Sept 21. And I'll be back here with you sometime after that---once I gather my wits! (smile). Until then, you'll be in my heart and prayers, and I hope I'll be in yours.
