If God Wants Us To Be Happy, Why Do We Suffer?

If you believe widowhood qualifies to be on a list of "What Is Suffering?" --then I think you'll find this short video from Dr. John Piper to be not only informative but also able to encourage and comfort as you learn God has a purpose in these things we suffer.
Most of the Bible he quotes come from these verses:
Romans 8:31
Romans 8:35
Romans 8:28

Does what he said make sense to you? I'd love to hear your comments.
I'm praying for you today,
ferree

  1. I honor Pastor John as a good and Godly man, but if you've never been through this it's real easy to say "this is for our happiness later." It's like hearing, after a broken leg, "Think of how you'll feel when it's healed." As Christians we are taught to live in the now. Well, now hurts. The best I can do now (4 months 18 days after my husband Bob went home) is to not be angry. I love God and honor Him, and worship and praise His Holy Name, and He has supported and comforted and shown me unlimited mercy during my grief. But joy? That word is not a part of my lexicon now. I can rejoice, but only in Him. I cannot rejoice in the circumstances, not now. Maybe later, but not now.
