A Widow's Greatest Resource

Dear Widow,
Thank you for taking time to visit today. I'm so sorry for your loss, but so glad you've chosen to stop here today. As I was wondering what to post today, wondering what resource could carry you through today, I was drawn to the promises of God, and how His Word was my rescue rope when I was widowed.

If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. Psalm 119:92

I certainly can't boast that I found a sort of school-girl giggly, silly delight in God's law, I doubt that's the meaning of the word delight in this psalm. Perhaps delight could mean what I did find true about the Bible: it sustained and satisfied my core in a rich, foundational way.

So today, desiring to bring you the very best, I searched for Scriptures we all can use for delight--for a rich, foundational sustenance and satifaction.

Let these verses from the heart of God's Word lift you as you join in their praise, and be sure to scroll all the way down for an encouraging link.

Psalm 69:30
I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.

Psalm 95:2
Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.

Psalm 100:4
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

Isaiah 51:3
The LORD will surely comfort Zion and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the LORD. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing.

1 Corinthians 1:4
 I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus.

I Corinthians 4:15
All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.

2 Corinthians 9:11
You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

Philippians 1:3
I thank my God every time I remember you.

Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

2 Thessalonians 1:3
We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing.

Today, as I reflect on the many blessings God has brought to me, I will especially thank our Lord for the privilege of meeting you and seeing His grace and power in your life at this difficult time. May He hold you in His grace as you continue to trust in Him today.

For more encouragement, and to hear how a woman called out to God in the midst of her suffering, and taught her children to do the same, click here for a Focus On The Family broadcast, Cultivating Gratitude in Your Family. This woman tells how she learned the truth of I Thess. 5:16-18---we're not called to be thankful FOR our circumstances, rather God calls us to operate from a thankful point of view no matter what sort of circumstance we're in--be thankful IN our circumstances. Hear this out.
Be joyful always;
pray continually;
give thanks in all circumstances,
for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
I urge you to listen in on this broadcast today.
God bless you,
ferree

  1. Ferree, I liked your "school-girl giggly" vs. "rich foundational sustenance" distinctions. I, too, am thankful to delight in the comfort and companionship of God through His word. And thankful for your creative ways of helping your readers look up, to the Lord. Hope your Thanksgiving Day has been full of rich sustenance, foundational and gustatory. :-)
